Best Practices in Building International Partnerships: Motivational and Communication Aspects

As global processes such as globalization and the development of information and communication technologies continue to gain momentum, the issue of the international competitiveness of higher education has become a pressing concern for most countries around the world. The Ukrainian government has tasked the national higher education system with preparing graduates who possess the necessary competencies for innovative professional practice.

The university’s international strategy serves as the foundation for long-term and short-term planning of international cooperation and communications, as well as the provision of educational services to foreign citizens. Strengthening the influence of European and global values on the university’s educational and research spheres will help create additional opportunities across all areas of the university’s activities. The university’s international activities strategy fosters a new mindset that views international cooperation not as a separate activity, but as an integral part of the work of every university department, aimed at enhancing the university’s standing in the international scientific and educational community. The strategy defines the goals, principles, objectives, and mechanisms for the development of the university’s international activities.

International cooperation and integration in the field of education are an important norm of collaboration among educators, as they effectively contribute to increasing the mobility of faculty and students, as well as students’ independence and their level of self-organization. Faculty and student exchanges serve as a catalyst for the modernization and reform of the Ukrainian education system, ensuring its seamless integration into the international educational landscape. Therefore, it is necessary to shape individuals who are capable of embracing and creating change, who view change as the natural norm and stagnation, immutability, and rigidity as regrettable exceptions. One of the most important aspects is direct cooperation between Ukraine and foreign countries, which takes various forms, involves different levels of interaction, and is rooted in long-standing traditions.

Educational Partnership as a Priority

Equally important in this era of global sociopolitical tension is preparing students for life and successful careers in a multicultural society, a goal facilitated by cooperation between national professional organizations of educators and international associations of higher education professionals. Under these circumstances, one of the most important tasks for universities is to integrate international components into the educational process—that is, to internationalize it. Let’s take a look at the main programs in which Ukrainian higher education institutions participate.

“Erasmus+” – The Erasmus+ program builds on more than 25 years of European programs in the fields of education, vocational training, and youth, covering both intra-European and international cooperation. The Erasmus+ program is the result of the integration of the following European programs implemented by the Commission between 2007 and 2013: “Lifelong Learning,” “Youth in Action,” “Erasmus Mundus,” Tempus, Alfa, Edulink, cooperation programs with industrialized countries in the field of higher education, and others. The “Erasmus+” program aims to go beyond the scope of these programs through interaction and mutual enrichment in various fields of education, training, and youth, breaking down artificial barriers between different areas of activity and project formats by introducing new ideas, involving new participants from the world of work and civil society, and fostering new forms of cooperation.
