Report on the Scientific and Practical Seminar “Innovation and Communication Technologies in Higher Education.” June 8–12, 2015, Bukovel, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast

 The Ukrainian-American Association of Higher Education Professionals launched an educational training program, which included a scientific and practical seminar titled “Innovative and Communication Technologies in Higher Education.” The seminar took place from June 8–12, 2015, in Bukovel, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, and brought together more than 30 participants from various parts of Ukraine. The seminar opened with a welcoming address by Andriy Ihorovych Krysovaty, Rector of Ternopil National Economic University, Doctor of Economics, Professor, and President of the public organization “Ukrainian-American Association of College Educators” (Ukrainian-American Association of College Educators)

Elena Seitz, Vice President of the Ukrainian-American Association of Higher Education Professionals and Vice President and Director of Programs at the International Cultural and Educational Association, welcomed the program participants online via Skype.

Olga Grygorivna Bench, Ph.D. in Art History, professor, Honored Artist of Ukraine, and Consul General of Ukraine in Prešov (Slovak Republic), also greeted the participants as a guest of honor and presented opportunities for participation in international programs.

Taras Volodymyrovych Fynikov, Ph.D. in History, Associate Professor, President of the International Foundation for Educational Policy Research, and visiting professor at the University of Warsaw, delivered a presentation on the topic: “Ensuring the Quality of Higher Education: Contemporary Concepts.” The discussion, reflections, and suggestions continued to hold the attention of the trainer and seminar participants for quite some time. This topic is vital and highly relevant. And so, the seminar got off to a great start!

Ihor Bohdanovych Oleksiv, Ph.D. in Economics, Professor in the Department of Management and International Entrepreneurship, Director of the Center for International Education at Lviv Polytechnic National University, and

Viktoria Anatoliivna Pantiley, Ph.D. in Earth Sciences, gave a presentation titled “International Grants in Education” and shared her personal experience working on grant applications. Everyone received information on where to search for grant opportunities online, how to prepare the necessary documents, and how to best submit their applications.

 Olga Dietlin, Associate Professor, Palm Beach Atlantic University, USA (Associate Professor, Palm Beach Atlantic University, USA) hosted an online discussion on the topic: “Prospects for Distance Learning in the Context of the Development of Modern Educational Technologies.” This session was particularly interesting for the opportunities it offered to acquire skills in using various software programs for creating interactive lectures.

Yulia Serhiivna Epifanova, Candidate of Legal Sciences, Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Law Disciplines, and Director of the Advisory Center at the Faculty of Law of V. N. Karazin, gave a presentation on an important topic: “Protection of Copyright for Academic and Teaching Staff at Higher Education Institutions.” This issue resonated with everyone, and a lively discussion continued for quite some time.

Volodymyr Ivanovych Satsyk, Ph.D. in Economics and Associate Professor in the Department of Political Economy at the Faculty of Management, Human Resources Management, and Marketing at the V. Hetman Kyiv National Economic University, delivered a presentation on the topic: “Global University Rankings: Myths and Reality.” The young scholar captivated the audience with a comparative analysis and description of the structure and innovations in the organization of education abroad.

Pavel Zemliansky, Ph.D., Associate Professor, University of Central Florida, USA (PhD, Associate Professor, Program Director of Writing Across the Curriculum, University of Central Florida, USA) led an online discussion on the topic: “Using the Internet to Build a Student Audience and Facilitate Individual Communication in Online Courses.” Innovation and technology are the future of education. The experience of this American professional is extremely valuable and will serve as an example for the seminar participants in their work.

Oksana Myronivna Desyatnyuk — director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Innovative Educational Technologies, Doctor of Economics, professor, and member of the board of the Ukrainian-American Association of Higher Education Professionals.

Seminar participants had the opportunity to relax and explore the natural treasures of the Carpathians.
