Ukrainian scientists have gained free access to the full texts of Springer Nature, a leading scientific publisher—the Ministry of Education and Science has provided access starting January 3

All Ukrainian state and municipal universities and research institutions can now access full-text publications from the renowned international publisher Springer Nature free of charge. The Ministry of Education and Science secured the subscription using state budget funds through the State Scientific and Technical Library (SSTL). Access began today, January 3, 2020.

Universities and research institutions that have previously obtained access to the Scopus and/or Web of Science databases through the DNTB will automatically receive access to Springer Nature. Those institutions that were not connected to Scopus and/or Web of Science must submit an application to the DNTB via this link.

“The integration of our researchers into the global research community is one of the Ministry of Education and Science’s priorities for the next five years. Of course, an important element of this integration is free access for Ukrainian scientists to the research findings of their international colleagues. Back in May of last year, we enabled all universities and research institutions—regardless of their administrative affiliation—to access the international databases Scopus and Web of Science. The subscription was funded through the budget, and currently, more than 430 institutions have gained access. “We have now provided access to all Springer Nature journals—one of the world’s largest publishers of academic and popular science books and journals,” said Dmytro Cheberkus, Director General of the Science Directorate at the Ministry of Education and Science.

He specifically emphasized that Ukrainian scholars will have access to the full texts. This exceptional access to the resources of a leading academic publisher has been arranged for the first time since Ukraine gained independence.

"This is a necessary step for Ukrainian science, as Springer Nature is one of the most popular publishers among our academic authors. Access to full-text articles will allow them to better understand the relevance of various studies, prepare higher-quality articles or lectures, seek out academic contacts, and so on," said Dmytro Cheberkus.

We would like to remind you that researchers from Ukraine and Poland will be collaborating on 15 research projects in 2020–2021.
